The project involved autonomous towing operations between the cargo warehouse and the airside apron using TractEasy’s Level 4 autonomous vehicle technology.
Conducted during active airport operations, the route included navigating complex apron environments, crossing multiple traffic lanes, and operating alongside live ground traffic in one of the region’s busiest cargo hubs.
The initiative brought together key stakeholders across the airport ecosystem, including Turkish Cargo, airport authorities, and aviation regulators, reflecting the growing momentum behind automation in global aviation logistics.
As airports continue to introduce technologies that improve operational efficiency, scalability, and safety, Istanbul Airport is positioning itself at the forefront of innovation in cargo operations.
Beyond the technology itself, successful deployment of autonomous operations requires close collaboration with airport stakeholders and navigation of evolving operational and regulatory frameworks. TractEasy continues to support airport and cargo partners through this process, helping accelerate the adoption of Level 4 autonomous operations in complex airside environments.
The collaboration reflects a broader trend across major international airports adopting autonomous technologies to support next-generation airside logistics and ground handling operations.
“This deployment is further evidence that we are witnessing a broad global expansion of autonomous operations across airports, cargo operators, ground handlers, and industrial customers, confirming that autonomy has moved from possibility to reality,” said Richard Reno, CEO of TractEasy.
With ambitious expansion plans and growing global cargo volumes, Istanbul Airport continues to strengthen its position as a leading international cargo hub. Through this collaboration, Turkish Cargo and TractEasy are helping shape the future of autonomous airport operations.
The Istanbul Airport deployment further expands TractEasy’s portfolio in autonomous airport logistics, complementing ongoing operations with customers including Munich Airport, Lufthansa Cargo, dnata at Al Maktoum International Airport in Dubai, and Narita International Airport in Japan.
TractEasy also supplies automation for leading industrial customers including BMW Group Plant Dingolfing, Daimler Truck AG, John Deere, and Bosch.
